If you’ve ever asked me for skincare advice — you know there’s one thing about me — I often hate when people ask me “What’s the one thing to…” get rid of or treat xyz? Ohhh, that question burns me up because there’s almost never just one way to achieve a desired skincare result. Based on your skin type, budget, access to products, time investment, product sensitivities, etc., there can be three, four or even five different options to help you achieve any given skincare goal.
In the series, “Three Ways To“, we will explore three product options to address common skincare concerns. And why “three”, you ask? (Nobody asked that!) I chose three because three feels sort of magical and manageable. I truly want you to achieve the best skin of your life – and three seems like a number you can handle. Today on “Three Ways To” I am addressing:
Three Ways To: Unclog Super Congested Pores
What It Looks Like: Ugh, this one can be sort of gross. Run your fingers (clean hands, obvi!) across your face. Feel your skin. Pay particular attention to the cheeks and side of face…even forehead. Do your pores protrude? Do they feel like they’re bulging?…kind of plump like they just ate a big lunch? Chile, if you answered “yes”, you likely have Super Congested Pores. The bad news is YUCK! That ish looks and feels gross. My condolences. But the good news is — We can fix this. Here’s how.
Very Pretty Skin Glycolic Resurfacing Cleansing Milk [for a limited time, get it in the Face Flawless Skin Box]
Powered by the deep exfoliating goodness of Glycolic Acid, Very Pretty Skin Glycolic Resurfacing Cleansing Milk is a crucial component for decongesting clogged pores.
If you are unfamiliar with the benefits of Glycolic Acid (an alpha-hydroxy acid) here’s how it works to purge pores. Glycolic Acid naturally occurs in sugar cane and fruit. It helps loosen the connections between skin cells…releasing the gunk that makes pores bulge. Glycolic Acid offers instant gratification because it begins to work immediately.
Very Pretty Skin Glycolic Resurfacing Cleansing Milk makes a huge difference in the quality of my skin because it quickly resurfaces and unclogs congested pores. With continued use, my skin is dramatically softer and the surface is seriously buffed.
When I learned to use Very Pretty Skin Glycolic Resurfacing Cleansing Milk properly – it was a game changer. I suggest using it every 2-3 days (on all other days, use a gentle cleanser like Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Foam). I like to massage the creamy resurfacing wash onto dry skin for up to 10 minutes and then wipe away with a cotton pad (before rinsing off completely). This “wipe off†is an added slight manual exfoliation step. I often see little specks of dry skin that’s been delicately removed. I am always delightfully grossed out by the amount of dead skin I see on the cotton pad.
For every other application of Very Pretty Skin Glycolic Resurfacing Cleansing Milk, I leave it on my skin for 20-30 minutes — This acts as a pore tightening mask. This extended application allows the Glycolic Acid to sit for a bit and really go to work breaking down all of the gunk that causes my pores to protrude and appear huge. And if you promise to not tell a soul – here’s another hack – I sometimes sleep in Very Pretty Skin Glycolic Resurfacing Cleansing Milk as an overnight mask…and let me tell you – I wake up tight, bright and super smooth. This creamy cleansing concoction reveals a glowier you after just one use!
Let me tell you, this tool is CLUTCH. It is both gentle and effective at exfoliating the skin, using light vacuum stimulation. The whole idea of this type of exfoliation is to go deeper to purge pores, remove dead skin cells, reduce the appearance of blemishes and surface imperfections. The overall result is clearer, more even-toned skin. This device offers close-to-professional-level treatment at home.
I have reached super BFF status with my Silkn Revit Microdermabrasion Device whilst sheltering in place. We’ve all been cut off from spas and I don’t feel 100% comfortable visiting spas now that they’re starting to open. It’ll take some time for me to get comfortable with the whole new normal in spas. Until then, I am rocking out with my Silkn Revit Microdermabrasion Device. I use this in a very targeted way. Rarely do I cover my entire face…I mostly focus on the areas that are congested. For me, that’s cheeks and chin. After a few targeted swipes across those areas, I am done. And when I change the filter, my instant gratification box is checked — because the filter is gross and filled with dead skin. I feel so vindicated! My pores are snatched and life can carry on. Once a week or every other week, me and Silkn Revit Microdermabrasion Device have a real nice sit down and my skin is handsomely rewarded. So if you’re looking to step up your pore purging game – this is it!
Mele Even Tone Post Cleanse Tonic
Please know that slow and steady can also win the race. Which is why I love to keep a good daily exfoliating tonic in my skincare repertoire. Over the years I have used many exfoliating tonics, and most work quite well at gently exfoliating and unclogging pores. My new go to is Mele Even Tone Post Cleanse Tonic. It’s formulated with lactic acid, to help to remove impurities and gently refine skin’s surface for a glowier complexion. Mele is new to Target and comes at an affordable price-point, which is why it has my attention. Most liquid exfoliants that I have tried are on the luxe side and start at about $25. Mele is available at Target for 17.99.
